The Crossing Church
During my last year at Southeastern University, I composed a piece for my then fiancé (now wife) and I to perform at my senior recital. It was a duet for Flute and Flugelhorn, accompanied by piano. When we performed it, my wife played beautifully; I did alright. But everyone there said they enjoyed it. We recorded the performance and I posted it on YouTube. It’s been on there about 3 1/2 years now and has about 2,770 views. Not a lot by any means, but over the past few years I’ve had about 15-20 people ask me for the sheet music. They saw the performance on YouTube and wanted to perform it themselves. Until today I had just emailed anyone who asked a PDF of the music for free (after copywriting it of course). But yesterday I received two separate requests for the music, and this time I decided to see if someone felt it was worth paying for. I posted it on my website for $4.99, and a few hours later I had my first buyer. It was the first time I have ever sold an original piece of music. Felt good to know someone found enough worth in my piece to buy it. Since I originally wrote it, I’ve always wanted to write more, whether it be duets, solos, worship songs, anything! Time is never left in the day to write something it seems, but after today I might need to revisit composing… You can watch our duet here: http://youtu.be/YjYRF7YmKmc
