Listening to the lyrics of popular music, one would hear conflicting ideas about commitment. Verses may proclaim "let's die for each other," while choruses repeat "it's just one night."

It's no wonder the idea of practicing an instrument for years before getting good is unattractive to young students. Or why more and more millennials prefer freelance or independent work over a lifelong career.

While temporary, quick success can be desirable, there is a unique fulfillment to spending time honing a craft. It's rare today to have a lifelong, single career, or even work in the same industry for years, but know there is value to commitment. Expertise is not gained overnight.
