If I'm in the car I'm listening to a podcast. Rarely do I drive in silence during my 45 minute commute. At work, there's commotion; meetings. At home there's family. Aside from the 2 minutes it takes to fall asleep I'm rarely in silence.
A special effort has to be made for silence. Not tweeting in silence or looking at Instagram. Total, un-distracted silence. It feels uncomfortable and unproductive, but it's necessary. Think of it as rest for the brain, and the soul.
