Hopefully you’ve never heard of the website, Ashley Madison. It’s a service that helps facilitate husbands and wives who are looking to have an affair find each other. Last month a hacker group claimed to have aquired the entire database of user accounts for this website, and just yesterday released that list to the public.
Needless to say, if you had an account with Ashley Madison, your motive was clear. And now your integrity (or lack of) is on display for the world to see. I’m not sure whether or not to claim this as an “unfortunate” event, but it will surely ruin many lives of the 37 million users.
In the age of the internet, nothing is truly secret. But aside from retaining your character, a life of secrets is not a life at peace. The constant fear of secrets being revealed can haunt a person; and that fear will hinder your daily life.
No, not all information is appropriate to share with everyone, but if you are keeping secrets from those closest to you, especially a spouse, it may be time to shed light on them before someone else does it for you.
