Mind The Perspective
Recommendations from a trusted source are certainly valuable, but there are times when you cannot totally rely on the perspective of others.
Say you need a principal violinist for the orchestra, someone capable of flawlessly performing Vivaldi's Four Seasons. A friend suggests a particular musician who claims they are, "amazing." Only, that friend has never played an instrument in their life. The candidate may truly be "good," but you require excellent.
These discrepencies in experience, and varying perspectives could mean the friend's suggestion is clearly not the right person. Your experienced ear can hear the subtle differences in an audition while others cannot.
