Rarely does the term, “what you see is what you get” apply to our first encounters with people. We try to be genuine, honest, and present the most accurate picture of ourselves, but inevitably we hold back some truths or create some facades that ease the awkwardness.
The bottom line is, we fear rejection. To put our whole selves out there from the beginning means someone can dismiss or judge the entirety of our person. That’s scary.
But when someone holds nothing back, speaks, acts, and conducts themselves as they truly are, others cannot help but respect that. Your opinion becomes more valuable, you become easier to trust, and your words of wisdom carry much more weight.
