When learning a new skill, the muscle that’s first to develop is a critical eye. If you begin to learn about photography, you quickly gain the ability to notice good images from bad ones. Start learning how to golf and soon after you notice the great and poor habits of fellow players.
For those in the creative and design world, there is a constant need for inspiration. But since you first develop the critical eye, it’s easy to see how novice your abilities are compared to the seasoned experts. But that’s the point: you have just begun.
Seeing the work of a master in your field of study or work can have one of two affects. Either it inspires and drives you to work harder, or discourages and make you want to quit. Strive for the former, and be inspired by great work.
