The Book and Its Cover
Recently, I've had the opportunity to browse numerous résumés in search of a worthy candidate. Crafting your résumé can be a daunting task, but even the best efforts fall short of accurately and completely portraying you. Your previous jobs, education, and experience only account for what you did, not who you are.
We've all heard the don't judge a book by its cover cliché, but I believe you shouldn't judge a book by its first chapters either. Reading about a person from their résumé, scrolling through their social media posts, and even seeking the advice of references does not paint the most accurate picture.
Look past the cover, forward, introduction, and chapter one. Sit face-to-face and look at person in the eyes. Hear and listen to their voice. Ask about their life, their family, their passions; and only then should you make a call on a person's ability or character.
