When To Accept (Temporary) Defeat

For those of us with problem solving personalities, to leave an issue unresolved weighs heavily on the mind. Leaving work without finding a fix can mean a restless evening, unable to turn off the mental gears still grinding from the day. But it’s inevitable that you will have to go home, knowing a problem awaits you the next day.

The problem solver can easily burn out in an environment with regular issues. There’s job security, yes, but a high probability of zero rest. As a problem solver, make your next challenge this: find a way to mentally leave work, at work. There will always be another issue to solve, or a way of doing something better, but in order to work at full capacity one must rest at full capacity.
