You Don't Need Permission to Learn

School is expensive. Bachelor's, Master's, degrees with hundreds of credits and thousands of dollars behind them, and none guarantee employment. Yet many feel like they're needed to advance in the work they love doing.

Yes, some jobs require a degree, especially (and ironically) in the field of education. But many new, and valuable skills can be learned and proven without formal education. YouTube, Lynda.com, eBooks, iTunes U, the internet at large, all these resources are free or cheap and only require self-motivation.

Teenagers with enough drive can (and do) learn app development, web design, and so much more without any formal training. And if you can send someone a link to your beautifully designed, intuitive mobile app, they won't care where you learned how to make it. They'll just want you to do it for them.
